2 computers for 1 mouse and 1 keyboard

While building a custom host for the current project, i need to play with 2 computers, but my desk is to small (or full) to have 2 keyboards etc etc. I remember that i ever see this kind of stuff on gcu-squad.org. After a little search, i get it. The name is synergy. It works really fine on X11, but should work on Win32 too.
This is really a great tool, if you have a bunch of screen laying around

I use it for a while, right now. But since every body ask me about this, i put it here.

Nice solution. I used to do something like that, but when I got to three monitors, I had to make a change.

Now, I have eight computers (Linux, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, Windows) in a rack cabinet sitting behind me (closed cabinet with a door, so no fan noise!) running through a KVM to one monitor, one keyboard and one mouse. To access any computer, I just hit CTL-1, CTL-2, … CTL-8.

Yes the KVM is a great tool. But they are a bit expensive. With synergy you can use how many computer you want, but you need to have 1 screen for each. Another tool is x2x but synergy is better (works on Win32 too)

Ack, this is great. I put both client and server on a Windows 2000 box and FreeBSD machine, quickly had it running with either as the "server". synergy uses less resources than another solution I once tried, x2vnc, and gives a few benefits too.

cut and past clipboard between the two is VERY handy. Thanks for mentioning this, I’ve been meaning to look for a solution that didn’t load down the windows box too much and this is perfect.

x2x and x2vnc are nice tools that allow you to control two machines with one keyboard and mouse. x2vnc works when the other machine runs Windows, too.

BTW the preview button does not work for me. I hope I got the ReST syntax right.

About the comment preview, it open a popup-windows. So you don’t see it if you have disable it, like firefox default.

Q3. I ve AMD64 linux machine,,,, seems Synergy works for i386 arch. kernel,,,, anybody tested with x86-64 machine ?

Q1) you don’t need any additionnal cable (you need one if you only have 1 screen)

Q2) No matter what keyboard you use, if it work under XFree it will works. The wacom is a mouse like device, so it should work .. but i ‘m not sure.

Q3) it’s open source.. so no matter you arch ;)

Is it possible to have 1 mouse , 1 keyboard, and multiple computers so that when i move my mouse on 1 monitor it moves as well on another?

Basically i need for the mouse cursor to move on the other monitors and computer the same way it would on base computer.

For example, if i clicked on the strart menu on one monitor the cursor would also click on the start menu on the other computers and monitors???

I would pay good money to know this.

Hi - I have synergy running fine across 2 macs running os x, but the wacom tablet makes it glitch - has anyone got it working with a tablet, specifically an intuos3? - please let me know -

HI! How can i have 1 mouse and 1 keyboar doing exact the same thing in 2 computers.
I get the impression that using synergy you can only control either computer.

What I want to do is basicaly type something in 1 keyboard and see that hapeening at the same time in both computers.

Is there any software that does it?

    Thanks
